Strategy: Provide energy efficiency and climate change services to our customers.

In 2008/09, AGL prepared a number of detailed compliance strategies for participation in the South Australia, Victorian and New South Wales energy efficiency schemes. These schemes require electricity retailers to purchase energy efficiency savings from residential, commercial and industrial customers. AGL has already established a number of new service offerings to customers related to energy efficiency as required by the South Australian scheme. In addition, we are providing a number of low-income household energy audits and services such as hot water conversions through our AGL Assist franchises.

The AGL Energy Services business is continuing to work with our major industrial and commercial customers to help these customers obtain significant energy savings. This is achieved through general energy efficiency advice, Energy Performance Contacts (EPCs) and our Energy Performance Monitoring System (EPM) which monitors and tracks energy savings.

We have continued to hold workshops for a number of our largest and most energy intensive customers. During these information sessions, we outline new government requirements in relation to energy efficiency and the consequences for our customers. We also discuss climate change science and how emissions trading may affect their business.

AGL’s Carbon Management Services business unit continues to be available to provide services to assist our commercial and industrial customers to manage their own carbon footprints and to prepare them for reporting carbon emissions and higher future energy costs.
