Progress against 2008/09 commitments.

2007/08 Sustainability Report Commitment

Comment

Level of Achievement

Evaluate the outcomes of the Energy Matters South Australian program with Mission Australia.

Agreed on mechanisms with Mission Australia to provide more formal quarterly reporting on the status of energy audits

In Progress

Invite applications for funding the 2009 Warmth in Winter program.

Provided over $204,000 to pay a proportion of the winter energy bills for 171 emergency accommodation sites across 68 organisations.  This equates to an equivalent of 83,000 warm winter nights for homeless Australians

Achieved

Maintain the matching of all employee donations up to an annual maximum of $200,000.

Raised $121,221 for the 18 Employee Giving charities, including employee payroll contributions and AGL matching donations dollar-for-dollar.

Achieved

Utilise the focus and expertise of the recently formed Safety, Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility Committee (SS&CR) to identify ways to improve the outcomes and impacts of the Energy for Life program.

The SS&CR Committee approved recommended changes to the Energy for Life program in September 2009

Achieved

Apply increased focus and promotion to the Employee Giving program to ensure that all employees are informed and aware of the benefits of donating via employee giving.

Developed a number of awareness raising campaigns and initiatives.  As a result, we have seen the monthly average participation rate increase from 6.9% in 2007/08 to 7.2% in 2008/09

Achieved

Continue to fund and facilitate energy audits for selected emergency accommodation services, including the provision of energy efficient appliances, to help them make ongoing reductions to their energy consumption.

Employed external energy consultancy CarbonetiX to conduct high level energy audits and installation of energy efficiency appliances for six homeless service sites

Achieved

Train at least 30 AGL employees to conduct energy efficiency audits, skills which can be imparted to interested emergency accommodation services and our charity partners.

Reviewed our commitment to training employees to conduct energy efficiency audits.  In light of current business priorities and potential reputational risks, AGL has decided not to proceed with this plan

Not achieved

Share the learning of the nine employees who attend the September 2008 WWF-Australia eco-expedition with others in AGL.

Participants shared their experiences through a number of channels, including informal discussions with team members, the production of a DVD of the expedition and extensive coverage on The Grid (AGL’s intranet).  As a result of other engagement and recognition initiatives currently being run within AGL, this activity will not be continued in 2009/10

Achieved

Open our AGL shop front in Burra, South Australia, to provide an easy contact point for local stakeholders interested in the Hallett wind farm projects.

Opened the AGL Information Centre in Burra to provide an easy contact point for local stakeholders interested in the AGL Hallett wind farm projects
